Seeking inspiration and overcoming writer’s block
The other day I was tidying my room - rock ‘n’ roll baby! I vacuumed all the dust off the skirting boards and carpets, turned off the hoover and kicked all the vinyl records, beer bottles and cigarette boxes out of the way. OK, that’s not true; I had to move a cereal bar wrapper, which would have otherwise affected the Dyson DC07’s performance. Anyway, I turned around to see the cable that powers the superb Root Cyclone Suction of the DC07 had got tangled up, like so (see left).
This freaked me out just a little. Firstly, because I’m a fan of music and secondly, because I had been struggling with writing music lately. I felt like I kept hitting blocks. We’ve all been there, sitting down to write something and there is not even a chipolata on the page, let alone a sausage. The mind goes blank and anything that comes to mind is the worst thing since the ad hoc ’85 Zeppelin reunion at Live Aid.
